Festival Performances in UK, Germany, and Spain


Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs in festivals in the UK, Germany, and Spain this month.

Following his Munich performances of Helmut Lachenmann’s Serynade as well as Ligeti’s Piano Concerto with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Pierre-Laurent makes his way to the United Kingdom.

June 17 & 18 take Pierre-Laurent back to the Snape Maltings Festival in Aldeburgh, UK. On June 17, he presents the Beethoven “Hammerklavier” Piano Sonata and the Ives “Concord” Sonata. On the 18th, he joins forces with pianist Tamara Stefanovich to highlight the world premiere of the festival-commissioned Harrison Birtwistle’s Keyboard Engine, along with the UK premiere of Vassos Nicolaou’s Frames.

On June 20, Pierre-Laurent appears at Mozartfest Würzburg in Germany. he presents selections from Messiaen’s Catalogue d’Oiseaux, interwoven in a program of Mozart and Beethoven.

At the Granada Festival on June 26, he highlights Claude Debussy through his Images and Etudes for piano. The recital also hears the collective Prunières-commissioned Tombeau de Claude Debussy, in memory of the French impressionist composer.

Then, on June 29, Pierre-Laurent returns to Germany for the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele. He presents various selections from Daquin’s Pièces de clavecin, Messiaen’s Catalogue d’oiseaux, and Ravel’s Miroirs. The concert is anchored by Tombeau and Debussy’s Images.
