Commencing 2018 with Bartók, Beethoven, Ravel, and Carter

To kick off the new year, pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs the Bartók Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and François-Xavier Roth. They perform January 11-13.

As Visiting Professor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music, Pierre-Laurent joins the Academy Soloists Ensemble as soloist and director. Together, they perform Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto on January 19. He later brings the concerto to Paris on January 31 – he performs at L’Auditorium de Radio France with Mikko Franck and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. On January 21, Aimard continues his residency at the Southbank Centre, joining the Philharmonia Orchestra and Pablo Heras-Casado at London’s Royal Festival Hall for Ravel’s G major Piano Concerto.

Pierre-Laurent joins the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and conductor Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla on January 28 for a celebration of Elliott Carter. They perform Two Controversies and a Conversation, Two Thoughts about the Piano, and finally Epigrams (dedicated to Aimard by the composer).
