Homage to Kurtág and Schumann
Pierre-Laurent Aimard joins violist Antoine Tamestit and clarinetist and composer Mark Simpson in three European cities for a tribute to Hungarian composer György Kurtág — presented during the Hungarian composer’s 90th birthday season — and Robert Schumann. The program includes Mark Simpson’s own Hommage à Kurtág, Hommage à Gyorgy Kurtág by Marco Stroppa, a long-time collaborator of Aimard’s, and as Kurtág’s own Hommage à Robert Schumann. To round out the program, Aimard presents solo excerpts of Kurtág’s Játékok and Schumann’s Bunte Blätter and is joined by Simpson and Tamestit for Schumann’s richly imaginative Märchenbilder for viola and piano and Märchenerzählungen for clarinet, viola and piano.
The three musicians make stops at the Edinburgh International Festival on August 12, the Salzburg Festival on August 14, the Kölner Philharmonie on September 21, and Strasbourg’s Festival Musica on September 25, where they will perform a modified version of the program.
