Stockhausen in Amsterdam with Tamara Stefanovich and Marco Stroppa

Continuing their exploration of the piano works of Karlheinz Stockhausen this season, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich bring the composer’s Mantra for two pianos and electronics to Amsterdam’s Het Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ on Thursday, December 3, where they join Marco Stroppa in the role of sound director. The 1970 work is scored for two ring-modulated pianos (with ring modulators now replaced by iPads), crotales, wood block, and a recording of morse code.

The trio reprises their presentation of Mantra at Paris’s Cité de la Musique in Paris on January 29, where Aimard also performs the composer’s Klavierstücke.
